My name is Chan So and I was watchman on board at

the time of the casualty. I was on the main deck in the

forward part of the vessel when the fire broke out.

was maintaining order and supervising the embarkation of

deck passengers.

I do not know at what time the fire

broke out. I did not know there was a fire until I heard

the noise made by the passengers. Some passengers rushed

forward from the stern and I told them to keep calm.

There was a stampede through that door.

a narrow gangway leadingout. Passnegers passing through

this cargo port were carrying small baggage.
